Meal planning….who really has time for that? I used to feel overwhelmed by planning and fixing meals for our family of five and because of that I would not meal plan at all and then fix unhealthy foods almost every meal.
That is how I used to feel, now I feel much more calm and at peace with meal planning when dinner time comes. Why you ask? Because I now have a plan and it is real simple to open the fridge and grab my dinner for the night now 🙂 Since I began homeschooling, 3 years ago, I knew meal planning would need to be interwoven in our days but not take too much time out of it.
Since the first part of this year I have done really well with planning our weekly meals. But this last month I recently began re-thinking my dinner plans all-together to save me time in the evenings. Then I remembered some people plan their food for a whole month. So, that is when I decided to give it a try. I am so pleased with it I wanted to share with it all with those who need help in this area as well, like me.
The very first step was to list all our favorite dinners and then asked my family what they would like to eat. And ironically my kiddos said if I only made PB&J or Pizza every night of the week they would be happy…lol 😉 If it were only that easy right?!
We are a family of five including an 11-year-old boy (who can out-eat me any day) 7-year-old and 5-year-old. They are picky when it comes to not eating pasta so I don’t use too much noodles in any recipe + it helps with me trying to keep gluten-free as much as possible (not allergy reason, just trying to eat healthier).
Four things you need to know about my meal planning:
- I like to keep things super simple in the kitchen.
- I like to save as much time from not being stuck cooking in the kitchen.
- I use as little ingredients as possible.
- This works for us, but it might not work for you and your family AND that is okay.
Four things you need to know about my November Menu:
- I purchased all the items from Aldi’s (this has saved me so much $$).
- I made a shopping list and planned this whole menu out and brought it with me to Aldi’s so I wouldn’t miss anything on my list.
- I like to save Sunday’s as leftover day since I want to have a day OFF too 😉 Make it work for your family however you need to.
- I want to encourage you to save money and save time in the kitchen.
After I went to Aldi’s and purchased all my ingredients, and YES I took all three children with me 🙂 I began to put everything away and thought will this really feed our family for 30 dinners??!! And yes it will!! With this new plan I will be saving our family money + saving so much time not having to run out to the grocery or be tempted to waste money eating out needlessly.

Even in menu planning we need to ask the Lord for his amazing help. As I was journaling and praying about the menu plan for the month, the Lord reminded me of this verse,
“In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” – Proverbs 3:6
I love how the Lord reminds me so often that I can do NOTHING to it’s best without Him. And I am so thankful for His supreme help. He makes everything so much better than I ever could. Thank you Father for your love in small and big ways. That is why I had to put this verse on the menu! such a good reminder for all us who desire to put God first in everything 🙂
I was going to put my shopping list on here, but I am not sure if you all would like that or not. If so, comment below I will send it to you or add it to this post if many people are interested in it. Many Blessings!
