This week, I wanted to challenge myself to see if I would be able to get my shopping bill under $65.00 without using coupons. There is only one good place I know where I can shop and still get great food for my money. That one place is ALDI. Because of that, I decided to do the majority of my shopping at Aldi and shop with NO coupons. And guess what? I am proud of the results!
When I grocery shop, I am shopping for a family of five: my husband, myself and three boys. My boys ages are almost 11, 6, and 4. Even at their ages, they are eating all the time.
All I can think is: what will it be like in a couple of years? Yikes!
My Three Step Game Plan to Save Money:
- Make a Shopping List after checking pantry, frig and freezer.
- Create Menu Plan for entire week.
- Bring menu plan + shopping list, and calculator to grocery store. Go to Aldi first, then Kroger last.
The above picture includes 43 items totaling $66.80.
I spent $54.92 at Aldi and $11.88 at Kroger. Totaling $66.80.
This averages out to $1.55 an item.
Great deal considering I purchased a few higher priced items:
- Bag of Frozen Chicken Breast $6.67
- Bag of Turkey Meatballs $4.39
- Kroger Pizza $3.67
- Bag of Cheese Raviolis $2.49

Making Dinner with a friend
Here are a few comparisons that were very cost saving for me.
- Aldi Turkey Meatballs $ 4.39
- Kroger Turkey Meatballs $9.69
You could buy 2 at Aldi for $8.78.
- 2 Aldi Milk at $1.89 = $3.78
- 1 Kroger Milk $2.59
Deal of the Day! Large Gardetto’s Bag for only $0.99 at Aldi! WOWSA!
So, there you have it. Our family of five menu plan + grocery list + total cost.
I went $1.80 over my budget, but I am still happy with the results.
